Plano Information

Plano, the northern suburb of Dallas, Texas, has a population of over 260,000 people, making it in the top 100 most populated cities in the United States.

In 2005, CNN Money magazine rated Plano as the best place to live in the Western United States. It was also designated by the same magazine as the wealthiest city in the nation, with a poverty rate of less than 6.4%. In 2008, Forbes.com ranked Plano as one of the three “Top Suburbs to Live Well” in Dallas.

The city was announced by the United States Census Bureau, in 2008, as the wealthiest city by comparing the median household income for all the nations’ cities whose populations were greater than 250,000. Plano schools regularly rank among the highest in the nation.

Plano is the corporate headquarters for many of the country's largest and most recognized companies. The top employers include Countrywide Home Loans, J.C. Penney, Inc., Electronic Data Systems, Perot Systems Corporation, Alcatel, Frito-Lay, Medical Center of Plano, as well as others.

Due to its close proximity to Dallas and the many corporations headquartered in Plano, about 80% of Plano's visitors are business travelers. In an effort to boost sales tax returns, the city has made a concerted effort to draw retail to its downtown area and the Shops at Legacy.
